NAIROBI, Kenya, August 26 – Nzoia Sugar kicked off their FKF Premier League 2023/24 season on a triumphant note when they beat Ulinzi Stars 2-1 at the Sudi Stadium in Bungoma on Sunday evening.
The sugar millers fell behind at the half hour mark courtesy of new signing Benjamin Mosha before their hosts equalised in the 55th minute courtesy of Victor Haki.
New signing Josephat Oyugi scored in the dying embers of the match to secure all the three points for Nzoia.
Back in Nairobi, league champions Gor Mahia were made to sweat until Benson Omalla stepped up to the penalty spot to make it 1-1 against Sofapaka at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.
Batoto Ba Mungu had taken the lead in the first half to silence the vociferous Green Army who had turned up at the 60,000-seater stadium.
Last season’s second-place finishers, Tusker FC, won by a solitary goal against Twahir Muhhiddin’s Bandari FC at the latter’s Mbaraki Sports Club — thanks to a Deogratius Ojok strike at the stroke of halftime.
Moneybags Kenya Police FC were deadlocked in a barren draw against Kariobangi Sharks at the Kasarani Annex.
