NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 4 – Stewart Omondi scored a hattrick while Erick Otieno added two more, as Tusker FC thrashed lower league side Berlin FC 7-0 at the Kasarani Annex, leading the light for more Premier League clubs who stormed into the second round of the FKF Cup.
AFC Leopards went through after a 2-0 win over Zetech University who play in the Division One while Ulinzi Stars bneat Kajiado FC 2-0.
At the Kasarani Annex, Tusker were the biggest winners on the opening day of the first round, with a healthy victory over Berlin.
Berlin started off the match imposing themselves well and pushing the reigning Premier League champions. The brewers had a few chances, Erick Zakayo having a shot saved while Shaphan Oyugi had a header flush wide.
They ultimately broke the deadlock in the 28th minute when Oyugi nodded home from close range after the keeper spilled a shot from Eric Zakayo.
Two minutes later, they made it 2-0 when Otieno finished with a low effort one on one with the keeper after winning the ball at the edge of the area.
On the hour mark, Otieno made it 3-0 when he swept the ball home from close range after being put through by substitute Omondi.
The brewers made changes to the squad, Humphre Mieno, Shami Mwinyi and Eric Mmata coming in for David Odoyo, Eric Zakayo and Otieno.
The brewers stepped up the tempo, scoring four goals in the last seven minutes. Stewart made it four from the penalty spot after a handball inside the box.
He scored the fifth a minute later after Rodgers Ouma unselfishly rolled the ball for him to tap home from a counter before completing his hattrick with a sitter after Mmata’s shot was blocked by the keeper.
Shami Mwinyi then completed the job in added time.
