Mwalala keen on positive start to life at KCB as bankers tackle AFC Leopards

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 1 – Bernard Mwalala will look towards a winning start when he lines up his KCB side for their first game of the FKF Premier League season against AFC Leopards at the Kasarani Stadium on Friday evening.

The bankers were uninvolved in the opening weekend of the season as their game against Kakamega Homeboyz was postponed due to their involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup.

They start their season against Ingwe, and Mwalala, recently appointed from Ulinzi Stars, has cast his eyes on earning maximum points.

“The players have done so well and adapted quickly to my style in terms of what I want as a coach. The formation, the system that I want has been entrenched in them so quick and the transition has been smooth,” Mwalala said.

“We are ready for the first match and it will be a tough game. They have already played their first game of the season which is an advantage to them because they have seen their mistakes and corrected, but it is not an excuse for us,” Mwalala further added.

Leopards started their season with a barren draw with FC Talanta last weekend, and are itching for victory especially after investing heavily in a new squad, with several high profile arrivals.

For KCB, Mwalala says their expectation is nothing short of silverware this term.

“From the management and the sponsors, the expectation is to fight for the title. As a coach and as a player, I won and that is what I will try to bring in to the team; the belief that we can win,” noted Mwalala.

The tactician arrives at KCB, taking over from Zedekiah Otieno, who left the club at the expiry of his contract.

Meanwhile, in other Premier League fixtures this weekend, Kenya Police FC will host Posta Rangers at the Police Sacco Stadium, looking for their first win of the season.

Police started their campaign with a 0-0 draw against Kariobangi Sharks and will be looking to claim their first three points of the new campaign as they also value themselves as title contenders.

At the Kasarani Annex, bandari, who started their season with defeat at home against Tusker FC will play Sofapaka, who picked a point in a 1-1 draw with Gor Mahia last weekend.

At the Nyayo National Stadium, new boys Shabana FC take on FC Talanta.

FKF PL Friday Fixtures (All matches kick off at 3pm)

KCB vs AFC Leopards (Kasarani Stadium), Sofapaka vs Bandari FC (Kasarani Annex), FC Talanta vs Shabana FC (Nyayo Stadium), Kenya Police FC vs Posta Rangers (Police Sacco Stadium), Muhoroni Youth vs Nzoia Sugar (Muhoroni Stadium).
