President Ruto Promises Review of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Response to Concerns

EMBU, Kenya, Nov 17 – President William Ruto has announced that the government will review the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program to address concerns raised by Kenyans, including Catholic bishops. Speaking at Embu University during the ordination of Bishop Peter Kimani Ndung’u, President Ruto assured that the government will resolve the challenges affecting the rollout of the health insurance program.

“We will rectify the issues pointed out, ensuring no citizen is left behind,” the President emphasized. He also assured patients at Embu Level IV Hospital that the government is committed to ensuring the smooth operation of the new Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).

Additionally, President Ruto highlighted ongoing progress in the education and housing sectors, stating that the government is ready for the transition to Grade Nine under the Competency Based Curriculum and has made strides in the Affordable Housing Programme with over 160,000 units under construction.

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, who attended the ordination ceremony, urged the Church and Kenyans to pray for the nation’s peace and unity, while Deputy President Kithure Kindiki commended the Catholic Church’s role in improving key sectors.

Bishop Ndung’u, 58, who was appointed by Pope Francis in August, was formerly the national chaplain of the Kenya Prisons Service.
