NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 20 — The Nairobi Expressway has launched the new Haile Selassie Exit Plaza at the Green Park adjacent to Uhuru Park which is aimed to ease traffic into the Central Business District.
The Haile Selassie Exit Plaza launched on Saturday by the Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen has five lanes.
The exit terminates into two directions; one headed to Processional Way into Haile Selassie Avenue and the other towards Kenyatta Avenue roundabout.
“The new Exit, which has five lanes, will now grant motorists using the Expressway from Mlolongo, JKIA and other entry points along Mombasa Road, easy access to the Nairobi CBD, Ngong Road and Upper Hill and reduce traffic congestion from Capital Centre to Haile Selassie roundabout,” Murkomen said.
The construction of the new exit commenced in late 2023 with its completion earmarked for mid-January 2024.
Additionally, Murkomen said plans were underway to add two more lanes to the current three lanes at the Museum Hill Exit.
The government revised toll charges at the beginning of the year setting in motion new rates.
Motorists entering the Expressway in Mlolongo and exiting at SGR and the Eastern Bypass will now pay Sh250 up from Sh100, while those exiting at the Southern Bypass will pay Sh330 up from Sh210.
Additionally, vehicles exiting at Capital Hill and Haile Selassie stations will pay Sh410 up from Sh210.
Exits at Museum Hill, The Mall and Nairobi Westland’s terminus will attract Sh500 rate up from Sh310.
From the Nairobi Westlands entry terminus to the Mlolongo exit terminus, drivers taking the reverse route will likewise be charged the same prices.
