NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul, 5 – The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced recruitment of 20,000 posts for intern teachers to support the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) rollout.
The commission’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nancy Macharia urged those interested in the posts to apply before July 18.
Macharia stated that they are expected to fill 18,000 vacancies in Junior Secondary Schools and 2,000 in Primary Schools.
“Interested and qualified candidates should submit their applications online through the Commission’s website.www.bi.go.ke under “Careers” or teachersonline.tas.go.ke not later than 18th July, 2023,” the CEO stated.
The teacher interns attached to Primary schools will be eligible for a monthly stipend of Sh15,000 while these attached to Junior Secondary schools will be eligible for a monthly stipend of Sh20,000.
The stipend will be paid subject to legal deductions where applicable.
The interested candidates for Junior Secondary School Teacher Interns are expected to meet a minimum requirement of being a Kenyan Citizen and have at least a diploma in education with a minimum mean Grade of C (plus) and C+ (plus) in two teaching Subjects in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent also Must be a registered teacher with Teachers Service Commission.
Teachers from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and persons with disabilities (PWDs) are encouraged to apply.
“To qualify for recruitment of Primary School Teacher Interns, a candidate should meet the following minimum requirement, be a Kenyan citizen, Must be a holder of a PI Certificate, must be a registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission and teachers with Upgrade Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (CBC) will have an added advantage,” stated Macharia in the statement.
Successful candidates will be required to have a Personal Accident Insurance to cover for personal risks during the internship period and selection of Candidates will strictly be on merit based on the number of vacancies per County.
“Successful candidates will be posted to serve to any primary or junior secondary school in the county where they were interviewed or in any part of the Country where the vacancy exist. Successful candidates for Junior Secondary Schools shall be required to teach various learning areas under Junior Secondary Curriculum,” advised Macharia.
The teacher interns will be awarded with a certificate from The Teachers Service Commission after a successful completion of the internship programme.
