NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 23 – Harambee Starlets striker Marjolene Nekesa is up in arms with her immediate former agent, saying he owes her USD4200 (Approx Sh563,000) in accrued salary arrears from her former club in Belarus.
Speaking to the official website of FIFPRO, the body that represents players worldwide, Nekesa says she left her ATM card with her former agent in Belarus to access her salary arrears once it was paid by her former club, FC Minsk, just as she moved to her new club Slavia Praha, where she is currently in flying mode in the Czech Republic.
According to her statement, she left the club, where she had played for four months, with pending salary arrears, and because she couldn’t access the money in the Czech Republic, left her ATM with her agent with instructions that he would find a way to send her once the money is paid.
“At the end of October, a couple of months after moving to Slavia, FC Minsk paid the money they owed me. My agent informed me by sending a picture of my account adding: “your money is here”.
“I had agreed with him that he was allowed to deduct his commission, which he did and we also agreed that he would swiftly transfer the rest of my money to me. He allegedly tried different solutions, but he would eventually tell me that they didn’t work out well because “other people” didn’t cooperate,” Nekesa said in her statement posted on the FIFPro website.
She says that the agent only sent her 1,000 USD from the money deposited in her account, and promised to send the remainder, which he has never done so till date.
Nekesa now hopes that the issue can be resolved, even as she admits that she faced a toigh time in Belarus.
She said she was only paid her full salary, a promised 5,500 Belarusian Ruble (Approx Sh223,000) once, while the first two months, she received only partial payment of 1400 and 1200.
She also says the club had promised to offer her accommodation, but she ended up living in a rented space with a Nigerian teammate with whom she co-shared rent.
