Ozil relishing early return

LONDON, December 18- Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil says he is looking forward to playing football again, and revealed that his return to action from a knee ligament injury may be sooner than expected.

“I am working every day to get myself fit and I am on the right path now. It won’t be much too much longer before I am back on the pitch,” Ozil, who last played for the Gunners at the beginning of October, told Arsenal Player.

“After a time, you really miss playing football. You miss the ball and just want to play. When you watch the games and think that you could have been playing, and playing well, it makes you miss it, but that’s the way things are.”

Ozil was initially penciled in for a return early in the New Year, but hopes to be fit again even before then.

The Germany international would have been watching his team when they beat Newcastle 4-1 on Saturday, and he is confident they can have make a genuine run at the Premier League title.

“When you watch the games, we have dominated a lot of them, but have conceded unnecessary goals,” he said. “We have to get our points by playing the game our way and I am convinced that we will finish the season near the top of the table.”

Arsenal are currently sixth in the Premier League table, level on points with Southampton who are in a patch of bad form, and only two points behind West Ham, who currently occupy the fourth and final Champions League spot. Their next game is a trip to Liverpool on Sunday.
