Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro elected Budgets and Appropriations committee chairman

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 3 – Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has been elected as chairman of the powerful Budgets and Appropriations committee.

In elections held Thursday, Nyoro will be deputised by Teso South MP Mary Emase.

Acting Director of the Parliamentary Budget office Martin Masinde said Nyoro was elected unopposed.

“We had an election earlier today and pursuant to standing orders, honorable Ndindi Nyoro was unanimously and unopposed elected as the chairperson of the budgets and appropriations committee,” Masinde said.

Emase who will deputise Nyoro defeated Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

“Emase got 17 votes while Babu Owino garnered 8 votes thus Emase became the Chairperson,” said Masinde.

Functions of the Committee include investigating and reporting on all matters related to the coordination, control, and monitoring of the national budget.

The team evaluates tax estimates, economic and budgetary policies, and programmes with direct budget.

The committee serves for a period of three calendar years and shall be reconstituted thereafter for the remainder of the parliamentary term.
