NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 28 — Police in Makueni on Tuesday detained three judicial officers, among them a court assistant, on suspicion of issuing fake court receipts.
Authorities identified the suspects as Nelson Munyaka, David Mwaura, and William Musembi.
“The trio is accused of conspiring and issuing fake receipts for payment of court fines and forfeitures,” the National Police Service said Wednesday.
They are also accused of releasing accused persons from either court or police stations on fake fine receipts.
Police said that receipts believed to have been forged amounting to Sh161,000 were verified and established to have been issued between February 14 and February 16 in respect to some traffic cases where accused persons had pleaded guilty and fined.
Police said the suspects are assisting with investigations into the matter.
