Govt to establish four new administrative units in Turkana to enhance service delivery

NAIROBI, Kenya, June 7-The Government has announced plans to establish and commission four new administrative units in Turkana County to facilitate accessible and expeditious delivery of services to the citizens.

Speaking during a visit to Turkana on Wednesday, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki disclosed that the Suguta, Lokiriama, Aroo, and Lokichogio Sub-Counties will be unveiled next week.

He said that the government is working closely with the local leaders to set up new administrative units.

He also stated that the government has begun the process of recruiting administrators to fill all the existing administrative units that are currently lacking administration personnel.

Kindiki announced that the positions will be filled in under 30 days.

As part of the efforts to enhance education in the county, CS Kindiki said that the Government will disburse funds to rehabilitate the schools that were destroyed by bandits in the county that has witnessed sporadic attacks.

“All schools in Turkana East Constituency that were raided and vandalised by bandits and armed criminals, among them Napeitom, Nadome, Lokidong’iru and Ng’ilukia will be immediately reconstructed,” he said.

CS Kindiki said that Kenya Defence Forces and National Youth Service officers will help in rebuilding the institutions.

He revealed that the Government has already released Sh 100 million for the purchase of construction materials.

To strengthen the capacity of security officers in handling emerging security threats, CS Kindiki outlined the government’s investment of Sh 20 billion in the security sector.

This investment aims to equip security teams with modern technology, equipment, vehicles, planes, and specialized training formations to combat crimes such as terrorism, cross-border crime, and banditry.

Turkana County is among the six counties declared disturbed areas and currently under dusk-dawn curfew.
