Taekwondo star Ogallo clinches bronze at African Games

NAIROBI, Kenya, March 18 – Faith Ogallo claimed Kenya’s sixth medal at the ongoing African Games in Accra, Ghana when she won bronze in the women’s taekwondo 73kg category.

Ogallo finished third behind Moroccan Fatima-Ezzahra Aboufaras who took gold as Cote d’Ivoire’s Astan Bathily finished claimed silver.

This is Ogallo’s second medal at the African Games following on from the silver she clinched at the 12th edition of the tournament in Rabat, five years ago.

Ogallo also won bronze at the 2021 African Championships in Dakar from where she earned qualification to the Tokyo Olympics — making history as the third ever Kenyan to represent the country in taekwondo at the summer games.

She will be hoping to feature at this year’s games in Paris and will be keen on progressing past the first round unlike in Tokyo where she lost to Serbia’s Milica Mandic.

Other Kenyans who have so far won medals in Accra include weighlifters Esther Kavesa (two bronze) and Juliana Anyango (three bronze) in the women’s 45kg and 81kg respectively.
