ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast, Jan 28 – Mohamed Bayo scored a 98th minute winner as Guinea beat Equatorial Guinea in Abidjan by a solitary goal to progress to the quarter finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
It was heartbreaking for the Palancas Negras, who had been down to 10 men after Frederico Bikoro was sent off early in the second half, and they had a penalty miss.
Skipper and tournament top scorer Emilio Nsue had a chance to give them the lead shortly after from a penalty awarded by VAR, but he struck his effort against the woodwork, much to the dismay of his entire side.
And, it was Guinea who would stab where it hurt most, Bayo glancing a header off an Ibrahim Diakite cross from the right to win it for the Syli Nationale and hand them a ticket into the last eight.
