Prize money, rules: Everything you need to know about the Diamond League final

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 16 – The Diamond League season’s curtains will come down on Saturday and Sunday in Eugene, United States, the venue of the 2021 World Athletics Championships.

There will be several Kenyans competing for the ultimate prize, the Diamond Trophy, with a hefty payday awaiting them with victory.

Here are several things you should know about the Diamond Trophy final.

The rankings in the Diamond League series will only help towards qualification to the final. In the final, the rankings will not count as it is a winner take it all race.

The winners of each Diamond Trophy event will earn a wild card into the next World Athletics Championships.

The final will be lined up across two days to accommodate all events. There are a total of 32 events lined up for the final, with the top cream of athletics talent expected to compete.

Prize money

Individual winners of every event in the Diamond League final are set to pocket USD30,000, approximately Sh4.4mn by the current exchange rate. This is three times more than what individual winners in the series get. In the series, each winner gets USD10,000.

There will be prize money for the top eight finishers.
