NAIROBI, February 26 – Italian athletics coach Claudio Berardelli did not have his contract terminated by his former employer Rosa & Associati as reported last year.
He instead chose not to renew it.
Speaking to Capital Sport, who published the article on October 5, 2015, Berardelli, a former coach of disgraced Rita Jeptoo clarified that he mutually agreed with his employer not renew his deal after it expired on August 31.
“My contract was not terminated as you had reported. I willingly left after my contract expired on 31st of August. The story was not published by Capital FM only but also other international media and that has dented my reputation.”
“I just want people to know the truth,” Berardelli explained.
In a letter obtained by Capital Sport, Italian athlete management company Rosa & Associati states that Berardelli made the decision not to renew his contract on June 18, 2015.
“We refer to the conversation we had with you on 18th June 2015 during the meeting held in Eldoret, Kenya in the presence of Mr Federico Rosa and during which you expressed your explicit wish to stop any working relationship with this company and any other company of the Rosa Group as from 31st July 2015, subsequently amended to 31st August 2015.
“With specific reference to this company, we would like to confirm that, in compliance with your decision at its natural expiry date of 3st august 2015, the contract that was entered into on 20th September 2013 shall cease to be effective and therefore any working relationship between yourself and this company shall come to an end once and for all,” The letter addressed to Berardelli said.
It continued to read, “It is understood that this shall be without prejudice to all the rights and actions that Rosa Associates Kenya Limited may wish to take in respect of the elapsed working relationship.”
