NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 1 – Another teacher has succumbed to injuries after a bus ploughed into a crowd at City Primary School last during the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers branch elections.
According to Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, the teacher passed away while receiving treatment in hospital, bringing the death toll to two teachers and one learner.
He urged drivers and other road users to exercise due care and adhere to traffic rules and protocols for the safety of everyone.
“We have received heart-breaking news of two accidents that claimed the lives of two teachers and a learner earlier today. In Nairobi City County, a public service vehicle rammed into teachers who were participating in union elections at the City Primary School in the Ngara Area,” he stated.
“Sadly, one teacher died on the spot while another passed on while in hospital for treatment.
He stated that up to twenty-six teachers are undergoing treatment for injuries suffered in the accident.
“On my behalf and that of the Ministry of Education, I extend my deepest condolences to the families, friends and relatives of the deceased. We pray that God grants them strength and fortitude during this difficult time.”
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, and details on the number and extent of injuries are still emerging.
