Homeboyz continental journey comes to screeching halt in Benghazi

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 28 – Kakamega Homeboyz have been eliminated in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup after suffering a 4-1 defeat away to Libya’s Al Hilal in Benghazi on Sunday night.

The Kenyan FKF Cup Champions were left ruing their wastefulness in the first leg in Nairobi last weekend which ended in a 0-0 draw, with Benghazi going all out to cash in on their home advantage.

Nigerian Ifeanyi Eze scored a brace, with Andoh Kelvin and Osama Belaid adding one each as the Libyans progressed to the next round.

Eze broke the deadlock in the 13th minute with a deft effort from outside the area, Hilal making the most of a fast start off the blocks.

Belaid then doubled their lead after 10 minutes with a well taken freekick from outside the area as Homeboyz were totally outplayed and outwitted.

On the half hour mark, Eze completed his brace when he beat Faruk Shikhalo at his near post to essentially wrap up the game for the home side and leave Homeboyz with a mountain to climb.

Moses Mudavadi scored the consolation for Homeboyz, but it was not enough to lift them off a tough evening away from home.

They were further hammered in the second half, with Andoh driving the final nail on their coffin to effectively end their hopes.
