LONDON, United Kingdom, Oct 12 – Former Manchester United forward Eric Cantona believes that manager Jose Mourinho can steer the Red Devils to the Premier League title despite a stuttering start to the season.

The 50-year-old, who is widely regarded as one of United’s greatest ever players, highlighted Mourinho’s winning record as well as the players at his disposal as a key factor in this season’s title race.

However, the Frenchman admitted it would be a tough slog for the Mourinho’s men, especially with Pep Guardiola aiming to bring the Premier League title back to the Etihad.

“It’s just the beginning. Manchester can still be champions,” Cantona told Portuguese newspaper Publico.

“Jose Mourinho is a successful manager at a successful club which this year has successful players.

“But this is an extremely difficult championship, full of great teams and great managers like (Manchester City coach) Pep Guardiola.”

United currently occupy sixth place in the Premier League standings, having picked up 13 points from their opening seven fixtures. Manchester City, meanwhile, sit in pole position, five points clear of the Red Devils.
