Stars crash to DRC

NAIROBI, Kenya, January 8- Harambee Stars chances of reaching the quarter finals of the Nile Basin tournament took a dent on Saturday after losing 1-0 to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).Lofo Bongeli put DRC ahead in the 26th minute from the penalty spot after Kanda Diao was brought down in the area.

For the second match in a row, Stars goalkeeper Francis Ochieng kept the opposition at bay with breathtaking saves most notably with a stunning stop in the first half to deny Bongeli.

Zedekiah Otieno’s side showed their attacking intent with Dennis Mukaisi and Jockins Atundo leading the way.

Patrick Oboya came on the second half to bolster Stars attack but it wasn’t enough to pull Kenya back into the match.

Stars hopes of qualification lies on the result of Tuesday’s match between DRC and Sudan.

If the match ends in a draw or DRC beat Sudan, Stars are through.
