MURANG’A, Kenya Mar 16 – Jubilee presidential flagbearer Fred Matiang’i has sharply criticized what he termed as the “historic wastage of public resources”, singling out the growing budget allocation to State House Nairobi as a symbol of misplaced government priorities.
Speaking during a church service in Weithaga, Matiang’i questioned why the presidency requires significantly more funding than key national institutions such as the Kenya National Trading Corporation.
He argued that the country cannot justify expanding State House allocations while several public sectors continue to struggle with limited resources.
“Why should State House need more money than KNTRC? No children are being born there,” Matiang’i said, alleging that the inflated budget is often used for political patronage and bribery.
The former Interior Cabinet Secretary said that if elected president, he would cut the State House budget by up to 80 percent and redirect the savings to sectors he considers national priorities.
Matiang’i also took issue with what he described as confusion and lack of direction in the education sector, claiming that the government continues to give Kenyans “a new excuse every day” instead of providing clear policy solutions.
The Jubilee flagbearer stressed that leadership should be defined by work, accountability, and measurable achievements, criticizing politicians who have served in office for years without tangible results.
He noted that Kenya’s development has historically depended on hard work and collective national effort, adding that he is prepared to collaborate with leaders from across the political divide for the good of the country.
Matiang’i made the remarks during a church service at Weithaga ACK Church, where he attended the laying of the foundation stone for a new conference centre.
He was received by Timothy Gichere of the Anglican Diocese of Mount Kenya Central.
The event brought together church leaders, local residents, and political figures from the region.
