KQ confirms medical emergency on London-bound flight, lauds crew response

The national carrier disclosed in a statement that the emergency was declared at around 14:19hrs by KQ100 operating from Nairobi to London Heathrow.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 10 — The Kenya Airways (KQ) Tuesday confirmed that one of its planes, a Boeing 787, declared a medical emergency after a passenger was taken ill on Monday.

The national carrier disclosed in a statement that the emergency was declared at around 14:19hrs by KQ100 operating from Nairobi to London Heathrow. The emergency declaration was made over Paris.

KQ said that the crew on board assisted by two medical doctors and a nurse provided medical assistance to the passenger as the Captain declared a medical emergency with Air Traffic Control (ATC) so that the flight could get an expedited landing for the passenger to receive further medical attention.

“The aircraft landed safely at 14:47hrs and paramedics who were already on ground to receive the aircraft immediately took the passenger to hospital for further medical attention,” KQ said.

The airline stressed that the safety of their crew and customers is its foremost priority.
