Kindiki dispatches top-level teams to probe Chuka murders

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki said the Government had dispatched a high-level investigative teams to Chuka to take over the enquiry and recommend legal action on those found responsible for the two deaths.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 9 — The government has opened investigations into the recent killing of two people in Tharaka Nithi’s Chuka town.

The killings occurred within a span of one week, leading to protests by local residents.

The latest victim was shot Saturday by police following demonstrations that led to the blocking of the Embu-Meru Highway for the better part of the day.

The victim who is believed to be a boda-boda chairman in the town was among residents who were demonstrating over the killing of the first victim.

The demonstrations broke out following the release of two suspects who were connected with the killing of the first victim.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki said the Government had dispatched a high-level investigative teams to Chuka to take over the enquiry and recommend legal action on those found responsible for the two deaths.

“Any person(s) at whom evidence will point shall face the course of justice. Condolences to the families and friends of the two deceased persons and to the affected communities,” Kindiki said Saturday night.

CS Kindiki called on the residents to remain calm and allow impartial investigations into the matter.
