MOMBASA, Kenya, Mar 11 – Kenya Power has refuted claims by a section of Mombasa County MCAs that it disconnected power to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital due to a pending bill of Sh120 million.
On Tuesday Mombasa MCAs gathered at the hospital to vent out their frustrations to Kenya Power for allegedly disconnecting electricity at the facility.
However, the electricity provider accuses Mombasa County Government employees of impounding their two vehicles that were dispatched to restore electricity at the largest referral hospital in the Coastal region.
“On Tuesday, a line supplying power to the Coast General Hospital and its environs tripped and upon restoration, the hospital remained without supply because of faulty equipment that resulted from a flashover on the unit supplying electricity to the hospital.
This situation was not rectified immediately, as our team could not access the site because the Mombasa County officials impounded our vehicles,’’ read the KP press statement in part.
After several attempts, Kenya Power eventually managed to restore power at the Coast General Hospital 15 minutes past 7 in the evening.
In the Press statement Kenya Power apologized to the hospital for any inconvenience that may have been caused. It also said that protection of life is their top priority.
