NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 9 – The Kenya National Union Party (KANU) has effected a raft of changes in the National Executive Committee (NEC) that has seen George Wainaina replace Former Secretary General Nick Salat.
Salat who was suspended from the oldest party ditched Kanu and declared support for President William Ruto administration.
In January, while in Bomet, the Former KANU Secretary General stated that he will now focus on campaigning for President Ruto to ensure he gets two terms in government.
Wainaina was previously the National Executive Director with Job Waka taking up his position in the slot.
In the critical changes, Wajir West MP Ibrahim Sheikh has been nominated as the 1st National Vice Chairman with Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda nominated as the 2nd National Vice Chairman.
The changes were effected following a special National Executive Council meeting chaired by the party leader Gideon Moi.
“For the position of the Kanu Women Congress National Chairperson, I hereby nominate Hon. Gladwel Tungo and for the position of the Secretary for Health, I hereby nominate Mr Mohammed Bashir Dahir,” Moi announced.
A unanimous resolution was made to nominate suitable individuals to fill vacant leadership position on an interim basis.
“My convictions are based on the fact that they bring a reservoir of political experience with extensive knowledge and expertise in the running and management of political affairs and institutions,” Moi stated.
“Thereafter, the party shall begin its elections in line with the set guidelines. It is my belief that the said officials are fully compliant as paid-up members of the party in accordance with the party constitution, and membership policy,” he added.
