NAIROBI, Kenya, February 1, 2026 – Nairobi United technical director Salim Ali is confident of an away win in Zanzibar when they play Azam FC in a Caf Confederations Cup on Sunday night.
Ali points to past results as evidence that his charges have the mental fortitude to come away with a positive result.
“They will play a very good match, I believe that. Of course, after looking at the history of Nairobi United, we played against NEC (of Uganda), which we scored two goals. We played against Etoile away, played very well…of course, we won through penalties but played very well,” Ali said.
He added: “When we played against Widad, of course, we got two goals which we were being denied. So it shows very well that Nairobi United, if they play away, they have that self-confidence, which is very good of the players.”
Naibois have it all to do in Zanzibar, to get their continental campaign on track after three losses in Group B — to Wydad Casablanca, AS Maniema and Azam.
Despite taking the lead through Duncan Omalla, they lost 2-1 to the Tanzanian giants in the reverse fixture in Nairobi, a week ago.
Ali, however, notes that all that is water under the bridge, adding that the players have been buzzing in train, ahead of Sunday’s duel.
“I think the mood is good. The players are self-motivated. and they believe they know what is their task here in Zanzibar, I think that’s a plus for the technical bench and I do really appreciate the players on that line,” he said.
The match has been scheduled for the Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.
