NAIROBI, Kenya, February 10 – Kenya Cup defending champions Kabras Sugar RFC beat Kenya Harlequin 50-22 to maintain their winning streak in the competition during their match at RFUEA Grounds on Saturday afternoon.
The league leaders were trailing 22-19 at the interval following end-to-end stuff from both sides.
Cornelius Mokoro drew first blood with a penalty to give Quins a 3-0 lead before Ntabeni Dukisa’s converted try put the sugar millers in control.
However, Paul Murunga’s charges were not willing to bow to their opponents’ offensive and quickly replied with a try of their own courtesy of Paul Mutsami, which was converted by Mokoro.
Quins added a second try off of a scrum before Derrick Ashiundu reduced arrears for the Kakamega-based side with the second try.
The hosts put the ball over the whitewash one more time before the break to which Kabras replied with another one of their own.
One-sided second half
The sugar millers were a team rejuvenated in the second half as Walter Okoth opened proceedings with the fourth try — subsequently converted to give them the lead for the second time in the match.
Brian Juma and Lameck Ambetsa then noted their names on the scoreboard with successive tries of their own as Quins seemed all at sea.
From a lineout, Asuman Mugerwa went over the whitewash to give Kabras their seventh try.

There was time for the final nail in Quins’ coffin with Kabras’ eighth try of the tie to confirm the sugar millers’ unbeaten run.
KCB rule Kisumu
At the Kisumu Polytechnic, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) thumped Kisumu 64-10 to maintain pace with their archrivals, Kabras Sugar.
The bankers went into the interval with a 21-7 lead courtesy of tries from Festus Shiasi, Lionel Anjeliti and Felix Ojoo.
Austin Sikutwa scored KCB’s fourth and fifth tries shortly after halftime before Kisumu replied via a penalty goal.
However, it only proved to be temporary respite as the bankers soon resumed normal service via Muhati’s second try.
William Opaka turned up to the show with another try of his own as did James Ochieng soon after.
A penalty try took the scores to 59-10 in favour of KCB before Vincent Onyala put the icing on the cake with a try at the death to condemn the lakeside team to their fifth loss of the season.
