NAIROBI, Kenya Apr 2 – Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has parliament to allocate an additional 400 billion Shillings to support possible evacuations of Kenyans amid global crises, including the Middle East.
Mudavadi told the Senate Committee on National Security, that the current allocation to the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs is insufficient to respond effectively to large-scale emergencies.
“We have put in a requisition for an additional 400 million Shillings, particularly in the event that the Middle East crisis exerts extreme pressure, because then it might call for a more aggressive approach to try and assist Kenya,” he said.
Mudavadi told Senators that 751 Kenyans have been rescued from human trafficking networks in Myanmar since 2022. 615 were repatriated and 39 imprisoned for illegal entry and for being repeat offenders after sneaking back following repatriation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed that in Cambodia, 323 Kenyans were rescued and 234 repatriated between January and March 2026, while 89 are still awaiting repatriation. In Thailand, 14 remain jailed for using forged stamps.
