BUSIA, Kenya, Nov 13 – The government is set to recruit 2,000 more instructors for the 238 Technical Education and Vocational colleges across the country, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Ezekiel Machogu, has said.
He said the recruitment strengthen the technical capacities of the Colleges to develop the range of technical and vocational skills in the students they have admitted.
Machogu made the remarks when he commissioned Chemasiri Technical and Vocational College in Teso North Subcounty in Busia County last Friday. The CS also commissioned over 100 computers to the college to facilitate ICT training.
The Cabinet secretary said the government recently recruited 1,300 new instructors, saying will join the rest of instructors in to strengthen the capacity of TVET colleges in training students for the economy.
He said the government is giving priority to TVET to help furnish practical skills to young people for an economy that requires technical and vocational skills.
He said German and other European countries required young people skilled in technical skills students completing TVET have opportunities to work for local and global market.
Machogu said the government will establish technical training institutes in all the Constituencies.
The area Member of Parliament, Mr. Kaunya thanked the government for the support it has given to the College, saying the donation of 100 computers to the college will be useful in training students receive.
The college offers courses in Building and construction, mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, welding, ICT and Agriculture.
He was flanked by the Secretary Administration in the State Department of Basic Education, Ms Florence Amoit, the Director for Technical Education, Dr. Meshack Opwora, area County Commissioner, Mr. Kipchumba Rutto and the area County Director of Education, Mr. James Ekaleis and senior security officials in the area.
