NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 16 – Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives arrested a Roysambu Assistant County Commissioner Wednesday following allegations of bribery.
According to the EACC, the administrator is accused of demanding a bribe of Sh50,000 from a Mathare resident.
The bribe was allegedly in exchange for the return of construction materials that had been taken away after the demolition of the complainant’s three-roomed house that was reportedly constructed on a road reserve.
She was arrested alongside her agent identified as David Musyoki to whom she had ordered the complainant to deliver the money.
The anti-graft agency stated the second suspect had attempted to escape their dragnet by fleeing to Mathare slums where they caught up with him.
“Musyoki took to his heels towards Mathare slum but detectives outran and re-arrested him. At this point, he threw the money to members of the public,” the DCI stated.
Upon arrest, the Assistant County Commissioner and her graft partner were escorted to EACC Integrity Centre Police Station where they were interviewed and later released on police bail pending finalization of the remaining aspects of the investigation.
