NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 29 — United Green Movement presidential flag bearer and former Chief Justice David Maraga has announced that contributions to his presidential campaign have reached Sh7.7 million, with Kenyans living in the diaspora accounting for more than Sh6 million of the total raised so far.
In a statement on Wednesday, Maraga said 1,834 supporters have contributed a total of Sh7,745,788.04, describing the response as a strong vote of confidence in his campaign and its reform agenda.
“I am deeply grateful to the 1,834 of you who have made a financial contribution to our campaign,” Maraga said.
“I am particularly thankful to Kenyans in the diaspora who have contributed more than six million shillings, boosting our efforts immensely.”
Maraga said the funds would be used in line with the principles of transparency and accountability, adding that the campaign will soon roll out the UkatibaCaravan, a nationwide civic education initiative aimed at increasing voter registration, especially among young people.
The former Chief Justice said the campaign is targeting 15 million Gen Z voters under the banner GenZ15MillionStrong, as part of a broader push to deepen constitutional awareness and youth participation in the democratic process.
Maraga also invited supporters to join the #UkatibaMovement by contributing through various channels, including M-Pesa, credit cards, PayPal, and Stripe via his official campaign website.
The fundraising update comes as Maraga steps up grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election, positioning his campaign around constitutionalism, civic education, and youth engagement.
