11,206 households displaced since the start of heavy rains

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 23 – The Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) says 11,206 households have been displaced during the heavy rains that started last month.

In a statement on its X account, the society further indicated that 23 counties have also been adversely affected.

It also pointed out that 188 people have been rescued even as 24,741 households continue feeling the direct effects of the ongoing heavy rains.

The agricultural sector also suffered, with 4,824 livestock being lost in the floods.

The organisation stated that it had taken the necessary steps to assist those affected.

“The Kenya Red Cross Society has proactively prepared for these challenges by ensuring prompt emergency responses, conducting search and rescue missions, prepositioning shelter kits and distributing essential supplies,” it said.

It indicated that it has deployed tactical teams to assist and conduct thorough needs assessments to aid affected households in the aftermath of the heavy rains.
