2 suspected peddlers nabbed in Mwingi with 132 bales of bhang

DCI said 28 bales of bhang were initially found on the roof cabin of the vehicle which was escorted to its Mazingira headquarters where another 104 bales were uneathen.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 10 — DCI’s Anti-Narcotics and Operations Support Units seized 132 bales of bhang Friday after intercepting a truck ferrying the illegal substance along Garissa-Thika Road at Mwingi’s Kyanunda area.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said two suspects, Daniel Yohana and Ismael Wako, were arrested following the night operation.

DCI said 28 bales of bhang were initially found on the roof cabin of the vehicle which was escorted to its Mazingira headquarters where another 104 bales were uneathen.

“A thorough search revealed that the vehicle had a false bottom reinforced with strong bolts and rails, where 104 bales had been stashed,” DCI said.

Further, detectives said the vehicle was ferrying 31 mattresses at the time of the operation which the driver claimed to have been delivering to waiting customers.

The suspects were placed in custody at Muthaiga Police Station with the exhibits secured ahead of arraignment in court.

In an earlier operation at Nairobi’s Fedha Estate within Embakasi, a 51-year-old woman and a male associate were apprehended, after sachets of heroin weighing 650g were found in their house.

Mary Adhiambo Opollo and Charles Kimani Wanjiku, 24, were ambushed at Fedha Heights apartment following a tip-off on their drug trafficking deals.

They were escorted to Muthaiga Police Station pending processing and arraignment.
