Man crushed to death by Nairobi bound train at Kibos Railway station

KISUMU, Kenya, Oct 17 – A Nairobi bound Railway train crushed a male adult to death in Kisumu today morning.

According to Kisumu Railways police boss Evans Getembe, the incident happened at 6am shortly after the train departed from Kisumu station.

The man was cut into half by the speeding train at Kibos Railway station 7 kilometers from Kisumu station.

Getembe said locals who witnessed the morning incident claimed that the deceased failed to heed the hooting of the approaching train.

“Locals said the deceased was drunk, we can’t confirm that yet, but he failed to move from the rail when the train was approaching,” said the OCPD.

The body was moved to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga teaching and referral hospital mortuary pending postmortem examinations and identification.

Getembe sent a warning to those living along the railway line to always adhere to the rules set out by the Kenya Railways Corporation.

He said trains have no instant brakes and its hooting must be taken seriously.

“Always we warn motorists, cyclists and pedestrians crossing the line to be extra careful of oncoming trains,” he said.
