Matiangi obtains anticipatory bail after claims of imminent arrest

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 9 – The High Court has given former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi anticipatory bail following claims of alleged pending arrest.

According to his lawyer Danstan Omari, Matiangi was granted a personal bond of Sh200,000 and stopped any form of arrest and prosecution.

He stated that an interpartes hearing has been set for February 23.

Matiangi stated that some strange people appeared at his Karen residence seeking to carry out a search or arrest for unknown offence.

Omari indicated that the police ought to had carried summons or warrant of arrest issued by the court to enable them conduct search or effect arrest.

Apparently they did not identify themselves as required by law and the administration of justice.

They said if Matiangi had committed the offence while in office as CS for interior and education, there is known procedure under the law in which the current government ought to follow

While briefing the press at Milimani Law Courts, the lawyers were joined by former presidential candidate George Wajackoyah who questioned the motive behind the move against the former CS.

The lawyers said that the inspector General of Police and Director of Ethics and Anti Corruption have confirmed that the individual who were seen at Matiang’is residence were not their officers.
