NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 1 – The President of the Appelate court Daniel Musinga has disclosed that all pending appeals will be disposed expeditiously to ensure Justice is rendered to the public.
The Judge while addressing court reporters who are attending a seminar on judiciary transformation at a Nakuru hotel said measures have been put in place to ensure cases are heard expeditiously.
He said most of the matters are being heard virtually but on request by the parties some of the cases will be heard in open courts.
Justice Musinga said virtual proceedings have appeared to save time and convenience to parties and urged lawyers to ensure applying the new technology.
He urged court reporters that the Court Appeal registry has been made accessible and they can make use of the opportunity in accessing judgments to enable them report accurately.
He said there is no existing fixing of matters as dates and hearings are only disclosed to parties without the names of the bench.
The Judge further said the Court of Appeal has 29 judges, 11 being female ladies and 18 are males saying the judiciary through the Chief Justice through Martha Koome have made a request to Parliament to appoint more 70 judges who will be able to serve court of appeals in other counties.
The purpose of that request is to ensure delivery of services and bringing justice closer to the people.
While addressing the same workshop, the head of Ombudsman secretariat, Peter Bidali disclosed that all measures have been put in place to ensure that all complains made to the organization are addressed within a short period to ensure services are rendered to litigants.
He said there has been complains made about the refund of cash bails, saying the issue has been resolved and urged depositors to do represent themselves to court with the respective receipts for the refund of the money when the court makes such orders.
While the Nakuru High Court Presiding Judge Hellen Wasilwa urge court reporters to report accurately and ensure factual information goes to the public.
She said that journalists can access information in regards to document or judgments which are now made available at the registries.
The two day workshop organized by the judiciary by court reporters ends tomorrow.
