DP Kindiki Announces Tarmacking of 217km of Roads in Laikipia

Dp Kindiki says the infrastructure upgrade is expected to improve access to markets for farmers and traders.

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 8 — Deputy President Kithure Kindiki says the government will tarmac 217 kilometres of roads in Laikipia County as part of its wider infrastructure development agenda aimed at improving connectivity and boosting economic growth.

The road projects include the Nanyuki–Doldol, Kinamba–Matwiku and Rumuruti–Mutara–Nanyuki roads, alongside several access roads across the county.

According to the Deputy President, “the infrastructure upgrade is expected to improve access to markets for farmers and traders, reduce post-harvest losses and enhance earnings from the agricultural sector.”

“The projects form part of the government’s broader development plan targeting economic empowerment and improved transport networks in the region,” he stated.

The announcement comes as the government rolls out multiple development projects in Laikipia County, including affordable housing programmes and modern markets aimed at stimulating grassroots economic growth and creating employment opportunities.

Among the ongoing projects are the Starehe Affordable Housing Project in Nyahururu, which includes 955 housing units, and the Asian Quarters Project with 850 units currently under construction.

The government has also allocated billions of shillings for the construction of modern markets, including the Sh400 million Nyahururu Town Modern Market, expected to provide a safer and more conducive environment for small-scale traders.
