NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 17 – The Government has warned Kenyans over the growing number of fraudulent schemes promising employment opportunities in Luxembourg.
A statement from the Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Ministry urged job seekers to exercise extreme caution and verify all overseas employment offers through official channels.
According to the statement, there is an ongoing scam in which individuals and organizations falsely claim to recruit Kenyans for jobs in Luxembourg.
“These fraudsters often present themselves as authorized agents and demand payment for recruitment, processing, visa, or placement services,” the statement indicated.
Investigations on the report indicated have these operations are unlawful and are designed to exploit job seekers looking for opportunities abroad.
“Direct recruitment for employment in Luxembourg is not permitted through private individuals or agencies. All employment opportunities must follow official procedures set by the Government of Luxembourg and its public employment service, the Agence pour le Développement de l’Emploi (ADEM),” it stated.
It emphasized that no private entity is authorized to collect job placement fees on behalf of Luxembourg authorities and that any recruitment process must be conducted through official and regulated channels.
Job seekers are advised to be alert to the following red flags that include requests for “processing,” “visa,” or “placement” fees are a major warning sign.
“Legitimate recruitment through official government channels does not require payments to individuals or private agencies.”
Job seekers were urged to always confirm overseas job offers through official Kenyan government platforms before submitting personal information or documents.
The statement pointed out that claims of guaranteed employment without official ADEM documentation should be treated with suspicion.
“Be cautious of recruiters who conduct formal recruitment through social media, WhatsApp, Telegram, or other private messaging platforms,” it stated.
“Members of the public who encounter suspicious recruitment offers are encouraged to report immediately: Hotline: +254 114 757 002, Email: kazimajuu@diaspora.go.ke. Authorities have warned that firm action will be taken against individuals or organizations found exploiting Kenyan job seekers.”
The statement indicated that for confirmation of legitimate overseas employment programs, the public should contact the State Department for Diaspora Affairs using the official communication channels above.
The government reiterated its commitment to protecting Kenyan citizens and promoting safe, ethical, and regulated labor migration pathways.
