KMPDU leader mourns father’s death, hails him as ‘greatest confidant’

He recalled his humour and warmth together with his steadfast support even in difficult times.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 27 — The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General, Dr. Davji Atellah, is mourning the death of his father, Moses Atellah Abonyo, who passed away on October 26, 2025, aged 77.

Atellah described his father as his “greatest confidant” and a pillar of wisdom whose counsel shaped both his personal and professional life.

“It is with a deeply broken heart that I share the passing of my beloved father, Moses Atellah Abonyo, at the age of 77. He left us on 26th/10/2025 at 5:00pm,” Atellah said.

“Although he had been managing chronic health conditions, his passing was sudden and profoundly shocking. We had spoken to him just the day before. When his health declined, we rushed him to Gendia Kendubay Hospital, but he departed quickly and peacefully.”

‘Humour, warmth and clarity’

He recalled his humour and warmth together with his steadfast support even in difficult times.

“My father was truly one of a kind. He was my greatest confidant, the person I turned to for guidance in every season of my life, whether I was navigating personal challenges or wrestling with complex work decisions. He had a remarkable ability to see straight to the heart of any matter, offering wisdom wrapped in humour, warmth, and clarity,” he said.

“His presence shaped the man I am today, and his spirit lives on in all of us who were blessed to love him,” Atellah wrote while thanking friends who had reached out to comfort the family.

“Thank you for the overwhelming messages of love, comfort, and support during this painful time. My family and I are truly grateful. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

The KMPDU fraternity also expressed condolences to Atellah and his family. National Chairman Dr. Abidan Mwachi conveyed the union’s sympathy and solidarity with their Secretary General in a statement released on Sunday.

“It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the passing of the father of our Secretary General, Dr. Davji Atellah, earlier today, following a long illness bravely borne,” read the statement.

“During this trying moment, may we keep him and his family in our thoughts and extend our heartfelt support. In solidarity.”

The condolence message was signed by Dr. Mwachi on behalf of the union’s leadership, which includes Deputy Chairman Dr. Kahura Mundia, Deputy Secretary General Dr. Miskellah Dennis, and National Treasurer Dr. Mercy Nabwire.
