NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 13- Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has said the transfer of 42,500 police officers who have stayed for more than three years in their stations will begin on Wednesday 20th March 2024.
Speaking on Wednesday, Kindiki said the move seeks to eliminate conflict of interest, guard against internal sabotage, and enhance service delivery in the security sector.
He said most of the officers who have stayed more than three years have interacted with the local issues and they even have no capacity to implement laws partially therefore undermining security issues in the area.
“The government has also decided to transfer all officers particulary from the National Po;lice Service who have staeyd in one station for more than three years. 42,500 officers will be transferred by Wednesday by all means possible,” said Kindiki.
‘Most of them have got into the local issues so much, they have even married local girls, others have opened butcheries and bars in the areas and you don’t know if one is a police officer or on of the villagers.”
The Interior CS warned against complacency, stressing that such behavior could undermine the effectiveness of the security apparatus and vowed to enforce the transfer directive without exceptions.
On March 8, the government ordered the immediate transfer of all police officers who have served for more than three years in one working station.
Kindiki pointed out that the government had directed the Inspector General of police Japhet Koome and all those responsible to comply with the directive without fail.
He said the officers are now utilizing their positions to promote illicit operations in the nation, even though it is against the law.
“We have talked about this issue of 3-year transfer policy for too long and I just wanted to communicate that all the officers form all the agencies who have served in one station for 3 years and above will be transferred starting today morning across Kenya,” he stated.
