113 Dupoto settlement scheme members move to court over Embakasi land acquisition

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 15 – Members of Dupoto settlement scheme have filed a petition seeking the government intervention to have them paid their compensation arising from acquisition of their land in Embakasi South.

The land in question was acquired by Kenya Railways for the development of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).

The government through KR released Sh2.7 billion that was to be paid to the settlers.

The over 113 members claim in their petition that they were not compensated instead the money went to a few individual pockets leaving men, women and children suffering.

The settlers, Konene Ole Nkuruna,John Saruni and Putita Topoika wants the Environment and Lands Court (ELC) to issue an order directing KR to return their land.

The petitioners through their lawyers AbdulHakim Dahir Sheikh stated that their constitutional right as enshrined in the constitution has been violated.

The aggrieved settlers are also seeking the intervention of President William Ruto to ensure that they are compensated.

They also want the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators.
