Kwale Treasury chief, his 4 brothers arrested in Sh48.9mn graft case

EACC said on Tuesday that Vincent Mbito and his 4 brothers are the Directors and owners of two companies identified as Chilongola Holdings and Rome Investments (K) Limited.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 27 — The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested Kwale’s Head of Treasury Vincent Mbito alongside his 4 brothers, all county employees, over a Sh48.9mn graft probe.

EACC said on Tuesday that Vincent Mbito and his 4 brothers are the Directors and owners of two companies identified as Chilongola Holdings and Rome Investments (K) Limited.

The suspects used the two companies to execute fraudulent deals with the Kwale County Government, EACC asserted.

“The other suspects include; Mongo Mbito Mongo- County Revenue Officer, Hassan Shilingi Mbito- Driver, Kwale Water and Sewerage Company Limited, Mwaiwe Mongo Mbito- Kwale County Procurement Officer, Chindoro Mongo Mbito- National Government under the Ministry of Health department (initially an Intern at Kwale County),” EACC stated..

EACC is probing 10 contracts fraudulently awarded to two companies. The Commission said the firms secured exaggerated amounts of Sh44,919,341 and Sh4,007,943 respectively in payment.

“The total amount was distributed to the suspects. The tenders, which they obtained in violation of procurement laws using forged documents, were for the supply and delivery of sanitation materials, food and ration, general office supplies, and institutional appliances,” EACC stated.

EACC said the suspects will take pleas before the Mombasa Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday.
