NAIROBI, Kenya Sep 22 – A teenage girl who completed her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2021 has been implicated in the murder of Eric Maigo, the Acting Finance Chief at Nairobi Hospital.
The 40-year-old victim was discovered with 25 stab wounds in a pool of blood at his Woodley Estate residence in Nairobi last week.
Police have been trying to trace a woman seen on CCTV images leaving the victim’s house after the murder, and had circulated her photos.
On Friday, the DCI confirmed on that they had recovered clothing believed to have been worn by the main suspect during the cold-blooded murder on September 15, 2023.
The recovered items, a red checkered shirt and a grey pair of animal-print pants, were found in a semi-permanent wooden shack in Bombolulu village, deep within the sprawling Kibera settlement.
“The suspect who has since been identified as Ann Adhiambo alias Nut, is currently on the run and is believed to be between 15 to 17 years old. She is said to have sat her KCPE examination at the Dagoretti-approved school between 2021 and 2022,” the DCI tweeted Friday.
The girl reportedly sat her KCPE examinations at the Dagoretti Approved School. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has estimated her age to be between 15 and 17 years and is actively pursuing leads regarding her whereabouts.
This development follows the DCI’s previous appeal for public information about the suspects. The DCI had circulated CCTV footage of the suspect, captured leaving the victim’s residence.
“Following the gruesome murder of Dr. Eric Maigo in the early hours of Friday, September 15, 2023, detectives are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the woman whose image appears below,” the DCI said in a statement.
According to detectives, the suspect fled the scene through the back door after committing the crime.
Two blood-stained knives, believed to be the murder weapons, were recovered at the crime scene.
