NAIROBI, Kenya Mar 5 – Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi is back in the country after a family trip abroad amid police investigations.
Sources close to him have confirmed that he flew back late Saturday.
“The former CS is back. As of whether he will go to the DCI after the summons I don’t know,” an official told us.
Matiangi’s lawyer Danstan Omari did not pick our calls or respond to our text.
Matiangi was summoned for questioning by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) last week to shed light on his claims that police had raided his home.
Even though DCI boss Mohamed Amin confirmed that the former powerful CS was under investigation, he dismissed as fabrication claims by Matiangi and even sent a team days later to retrieve CCTV footage.
Just last week, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) also opened up an investigation on Matiangi’s wealth accumulation since he joined the government 10 years ago, further deepening his woes.
It is understood that the DCI is also undertaking an investigation on various issues, among them the Ruaraka land saga.
