Maseno University student on strike after student’s killing during Azimio protests

KISUMU, Kenya, Mar 21 – Maseno University students are on the rampage following the the killing of a 3rd student by the police on Monday.

The students who are coming to terms following the death of the Literature student accused the police of going after them during the peaceful demonstration.

“Comrades are always right,” said one unidentified student.

The student went further to say that the police is to be blamed for the reckless shooting.

“What we want is justice and nothing else,” the student said.

The students however didn’t close the Kisumu Busia road but boycotted classes to mourn their collegue.

The government pathologist is already at Coptic mission hospital morgue for the postmortem of the late William Mayenga.

Mayenya was shot by police officers from Maseno police station and died on spot.

The parents of the slain student have already arrived at he morgue witnessing the postmortem examinations.

His dad Joash Mayenga said he is yet to understand why his son was targeted by the police.

“My son was a calm person, very humble and as his dad I never expected this,” the father to the late William Mayenga said.

The mother to the late student Everline Miruka accused the security agents for failing to protect learners.

“Those police officers are the one to offer security to these innocent learners but they have turned against them and killing them,” Miruka said.
