President Ruto gazettes 51 Principal Secretary nominees

NAIROBI, Kenya Dec 2 – President William Ruto has gazetted all the 51 Principal secretary nominees hours after MPs approved all of them.

On Thursday, the National Assembly approved the vetting reports presented by various departmental committees that carried out the vetting process of the 51 nominees.

The gazette notice dated December 1, 2022 paves the way for their swearing-in which is scheduled to take place on Friday at State House Nairobi.

The High Court had stopped the ongoing vetting of permanent secretaries by Parliament, pending the determination of a case filed by the Law Society.

The LSK says in the petition that the list of 51 PSs presented to Parliament for vetting and approval for not depict the national representation including the youth, persons with disabilities, the marginalized and gender balance.

The petition stated that the list contains 13 people each from Rift Valley and Central Kenya to the detriment of 40 other ethnic communities.

Justice Nduma Nderi ruled on Tuesday, November 29 that the petition challenging the process was prematurely filed.

The judge said Parliament ought to be allowed to complete the process, and an aggrieved party can thereafter file a suit.

Those set to be sworn in include Raymond Omollo (Interior), Belio Kipsang (basic education), Peter Tum (Medical services), Julius Korir (Cabinet Affairs), Julius Bitok (Citizen Services), Josephine Mburu (Health Standards), Chris Kiptoo (National Treasury), Patrick Mariro (Defence) and Alfred K’Ombundo (Trade).
