DCI issues ‘wanted’ public notice for 8 terror suspects

Nairobi, Kenya, Jan 12- The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued a ‘wanted’ notice for eight terror suspects some linked to the Al Shabaab militia.

DCI boss George Kinoti has urged the public to volunteer any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects whom he described as highly trained, armed and dangerous.

“The suspects who are highly trained, armed and dangerous have been dispatched to the country to commit acts of terror. Members of the public are asked to provide any information that may lead to their arrest through our FichuakwaDCI HOTLINE number 0800 722 203,” he stated.

The suspects include Mohamud Abdi Aden alias Mohamed Yare who hails from Garissa County.

Yare was first arrested in April 2014 for providing information to Al-Qaeda linked Jihadist group on possible targets that the group could attack in the country before being released according to the notice from the DCI.

“He was prosecuted and charged in the court of law with collection of information contrary to section 29 and 30 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA). However, he was acquitted on 31st March 2017 and subsequently rejoined Al Shabaab in Somalia. He was part of the cell that planned the Dusit attack in January 2019,” the notice read.

Another suspect was identified as Abdikadir Mohamed Abdikadir alias Ikrim who was also believed to have been part of the group that organized attacks in Kenya and the neighboring Uganda.

“Previously, he was a close ally to Al-Shabaab leaders including FAZUL ABDULLAH MOHAMED, ABDI GODANE and SALIM SALEH SWALEH NABHAN. He was involved in planning of the Dusit attack of 2019 and 2010 Kampala bombing attacks,” the DCI stated.

The agency stated that at one time Ikrim resided in Nairobi’s South C area and Kongowea and Nyali in Mombasa.

Other suspect includes Ahmed Ali Mohamed and Mohamed Ali Hussein who were part of the team deployed by the terrorist organization to carry out a large-scale attack in Kenyan soil three years ago which was foiled by the security agencies.

“The team had been deployed to carry out an attack using a Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) but the plan was disrupted after security personnel intercepted the VBIED and arrested three militants at MERTI area in ISIOLO County,” the agency said.

Both suspects managed to escape and returned to Somalia which borders Kenya in the North according to the DCI.

Others include Kassim Musa Mwarusi, Peter Gichungu Njoroge, Erick Njoroge Wachira and Abdurahman Hija.

This notice comes two months after the United States government issued a bounty of up to 6 million dollars for information on the whereabouts of four key leaders of the Al-Shabaab on November 6.
