NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 20 – As they prepare to make their maiden bow in Continental football, Nairobi United head coach Nicholas Muyoti has warned that his team is in the CAF Confederation Cup to compete and not merely participate.
United are playing in the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time ever, after winning the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup last season.
United, who have just been promoted to the top tier FKF Premier League, will take on Uganda’s NEC in their Continental debut, with the first leg set for Kampala.
Speaking to Telecomasia.net just before the match, Muyoti says his charges are ready to represent Kenya, and will be in to make a good show.
“We are not coming into this competition just to participate but we are coming in to compete. The players have told me this is their Cup and they want to make history and do well. They won the tournament knowing this is what they wanted to play and they are very ready. We have prepared very well and everyone in the team is focused. We are only worried a bit because of the lack of competitive matches as we have not played a league match before this first leg, but nonetheless, we will step into the pitch and give our best,” the tactician told Telecomasia.
Muyoti believes starting away will give them a good footing and hopes they can manage to pick a win and a cleansheet to make the return leg a bit lighter.
