NAIROBI, Kenya, March 11 – Football politics in Kenya is set for an interesting turn following Football Kenya Federation (FKF) move to bar Hussein Mohammed from Saturday’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
In a letter addressed to Murang’a Seal, FKF CEO Barry Otieno pointed out that Mohammed is not a member of the club and hence is ineligible to represent it at the AGM.
“Following a comprehensive review of the registration documents and other details thereof regarding Murang’a SEAL FC submitted in compliance of Article L.02 and L.03 of the FKF Club Licensing Regulations and Article 54 and 55 of the CAF Men’s Club Licensing Regulations (2022), attached for your reference, we would like to inform you that Mr Hussein Mohammed is not registered with FKF as a member of Murang’a SEAL or FKF in general, in accordance with Article 11 of the FKF Constitution (2017) and Article 8.1.4 of the FKF Rules and Regulations Governing Football (2019),” the letter reads.
It adds: “In light of the aforementioned, Mr Hussein Mohammed is therefore ineligible to represent Murang’a SEAL in the upcoming FKF Annual General Meeting.”
The letter further identifies Robert Wanyoike Macharia as the sole director of the club.
“Furthermore, it is important to note that based on the documents submitted during the club licensing registration process, Murang’a SEAL is formally registered as Murang’a Sports Excellence Academy Limited. Mr Robert Kenneth Wanyoike Macharia is identified as the sole director of this entity, which is duly recognised as Murang’a SEAL FC for the purposes of FKF activities,” the letter decrees.
The annual AGM was set to discuss, among other issues, the ‘small matter’ of the national elections that are set for later this year.
Incumbent Nick Mwendwa is expected to step down after serving two terms.
Apart from the Extreme Sports CEO, others expected to throw their hats in the ring for the FKF presidency include former Harambee Stars striker Dennis Oliech, former FKF Executive Committee member Tom Alila, and former Harambee Stars/Gor Mahia defender Sammy ‘Kempes’ Owino.
