Blades two steps away from Paris Olympics after slicing through Namibia

NAIROBI, Kenya, November 1 – The national women’s hockey team enhanced their chances of qualifying for next year’s Paris Olympics with a 1-0 win over Namibia in their ongoing qualification campaign in Pretoria, South Africa on Wednesday evening.

The Blades drew first blood through Grace Bwire in the 53rd minute after a tenacious display from their southern African opponents.

The win marked a spotless record for the Kenyans in the pool stages, following their 4-0 hammering of Zambia in their first match on Sunday and their 3-2 win over Ghana, a day later.

They next face Nigeria in the semi-finals with a place in the finals at stake and a grand reward of qualifying for the quadrennial games should they emerge victors in the tournament.

Their male counterparts will be hoping to collect their second win of the tournament and secure passage into the knockout stages when they face Ghana on Wednesday night.

They began their quest with a 2-0 loss to Egypt before recovering to pip Zambia on Monday by a solitary strike courtesy of Robert Masibo.
