Nkanas win Betnare Moran World Cup in Kajiado

KAJIADO, Kenya, Dec 20 – Namanga Based Nkanas FC are the champions of the just concluded annual Moran World Cup.

Nkanas edged Kamaliza by a solitary goal in the exciting finale of the tournament, which is in its sixth edition. The game was played out at a packed Ildamta stadium in Kajiado town.

Over 5000 fans watched the finale in this tournament sponsored by the Kajiado county government and gaming firm Betnare.

Betnare not only kitted the finalists in both the men and women finals, but also provided match balls, trophies and referees uniforms.

The firm also promised to partner with the organisers of the competitions to ensure the future tournament is bigger and better.

“This is our first partnership with this tournament and it has been an eye-opener. We want to help build sports at the grassroots and Kajiado has offered us the best podium,” said Betnare’s Louis Owino.

He added: “At Betnare our core mission is to reach out to the community and support them by empowering them in the areas they are talented and especially in sports. That’s the best way to get our youth out of social vices like drug abuse, crime and prostitution.”

Nkanas FC who came to the finals after beating Promising Sunshine FC 2-0 in the semis.

In the final, the victors scored their own goal through Mohamed Okwi in the 75th minute.

In the other semi, last year’s champions Pizam from Kajiado South were edged out by Kamaliza FC after coming on the wrong side of a 4-0 scoreline.

In the ladies category, Rongai based Achievers FC defended their title after securing a narrow win of 1-0 against Pamep FC from Ngong.

Organizers led by Kajiado FKF Branch Chairman Alex Musikeri lauded the participants for showing high level of play and discipline in the tournament that attracted 22 men teams and 6 Ladies teams.

The County Director of sports Shadrack Maya called for more sponsors to come on board.
